Sorry this update has come so late. Amanda received her new lungs January 12. She is still in ICY but doing well. We have been posting all the updates on her Facebook page called, Prayers For Amanda Sue.

Glossary of CF Terms

I will be adding more as I think of them :)
Port: Go to my "Wednesday appointment" blog post. There you will see what a port looks like. That is placed under my skin and is threaded through a vein to my heart. When I need IV antibiotics, they "access" my port by sticking a needle into the center pad thing. And that's how I receive medicines.
Chest PT: Beating or "Clapping" on various areas of the chest in order to loosen mucus from the lung walls.
Clean-out: A 2-3 week period where I have to get antibiotics to fight infection.
Feeding Tube: A gastronomy tube that is placed directly into my stomach.
Nebulizer: A way of receiving medication directly into the lungs by a mist, kind of like hooka.
Night feeds: A pump that I hook my feeding tube up to that pumps formula into my stomach
PFTs: Pulmonary function test. Basically, a way to measure how well the lungs are working.
Vest: A mechanical way of getting Chest PT. I put on a vest that inflates and shakes me, to help loosen up mucus.
